Summer University
Experience the best summer of your life!
The Summer University is an unforgettable two-week holiday organised for other AEGEE members by volunteers from local chapters. It is an unforgettable experience where you have the chance to get to know the place you are travelling to perfectly.
The Summer University is one of AEGEE’s projects. It is the oldest and most successful project – AEGEE members have been going to summer universities all over Europe since 1988!

About the Summer Universities
The Summer Universities are organised by local AEGEE organisations, called antennae. These are local, very nice people who prepare the programme for the participants throughout their stay. They will try to show you the best of their country and probably take you to places you won’t read about in any guidebook.
The Summer University is also a great opportunity to experience the local culture and cuisine. You’ll definitely get a good impression of the country you’re visiting. Are you interested in the local language, the daily rhythm, the level of local transport, the natural and cultural beauty, evening parties, local restaurants, etc.? Then definitely go to the Summer University, because you will definitely get a taste of all this.
Why Summer University is called what it is called is quite hard to say, everyone at AEGEE has their own slightly different opinion on it. One thing is for sure, you’ll get a perfect language practice – most of the Summer Universities are in English, because participants come from all over Europe and English is the language everyone can understand. However, some Summer Universities focus on the local language, so you can practice your German or Italian, for example. Plus, you’ll still meet new people from all over Europe and get to know each other perfectly during the Summer University.
Types of Summer Universities
Summer Course (SC): is a type of Summer University focused on a specific topic, from language and local culture to environment and politics. A minimum of 14 hours per week is allocated for education on the topic. The duration is 2-4 weeks and the cost is a maximum of 77 Euro per week.

Where you can go
AEGEE has over 70 antennae (local organisations in each city), each of which organises an international event (most often the Summer University) at least once every two years. Some of the antennas organise an SU every year, and often several antennas collaborate on one Summer University, so you get to know several cities. And there are always more to choose from! The variety of venues is breathtaking – cities from southern and northern states, coastal and inland, east and west, large and small towns – there’s something for everyone.
When can you go to the Summer University
Summer universities take place during the summer holidays, i.e. from June to September.

Conditions of participation in the Summer University
You have to be a member of AEGEE-Brno, fill in the application form online and send your motivation letters. You can participate in the Summer University even if you are not a student anymore. It doesn’t matter which university you are from or which subject you are studying.
Why do I need to be a member of AEGEE-Brno?
The opportunity to participate in the summer university is one of the most important benefits of membership. On the other hand, we do not force anyone to be an active member.
What does this membership entail?
It’s up to you. Summer Universities are not the only activities of AEGEE or its “antennae” in individual university cities across Europe. For a current listing of events, please visit the AEGEE-Europe website under Events. Some events are aimed at developing softskills. You can also become a member of one of the Working Groups, depending on what interests you. There is a group dealing with international politics, human rights, dance, environment, etc. AEGEE-Brno organizes a number of so-called social events, Internationa Dinner, Czechoslovak Weekend, exchanges with another antenna, etc. You can just participate or help with the organization or maybe become president
The organisers also include an optional part of the Summer University programme for an additional fee, which includes a special activity – for example, an extra trip, bowling, canoeing, wine tasting, etc. Optional fees range from €10 to €40

Application process
Until when can I apply?
The online application must be completed no later than 2nd of May 2026.
What to write in a motivation letter?
Write something about yourself and why you want to attend this summer university. Motivation letters do not have to be very formal, the selection is made by young people like you, so it is advisable to include something that will appeal to them. Don’t forget that the selection of participants is mainly made on the basis of motivation letters. Therefore, try to impress through these letters. You have a maximum of 2500 characters per cover letter. However, you definitely don’t have to use the whole range, a cover letter that is too long is rather detrimental – the organisers read 60 of these letters.
What happens then?
After preselection, the applications will be sent to the respective antennas (where you have been preselected) who will select the “most suitable” participants based on the cover letters.
How long before I know if I’ve been selected?
No later than 14 May you will hear from the organisers of your selected summer university whether you have indeed been accepted and whether you can start packing
What do I do if I’m accepted?
The organisers will contact you with further information. They will usually set up a Facebook/Whatsapp group to keep you in touch. There you will also get all the information you need and you can agree with the other participants on various things – for example, about travelling together or who will bring what to be brought for sampling (traditional sweets/alcohol from your country).
What if I don’t get accepted?
If you weren’t accepted in the first round, it doesn’t mean you won’t go to summer university at all. You can be put on the waiting list and if someone refuses to participate, you can be selected in their place. If you are already on the waiting list, it is not a bad idea to keep checking with the organisers to see if they have a vacancy and to remind yourself. You can also try to apply via the opencall. This can be announced by the organisers of the Summer Universities if they do not have a sufficient number of participants or if they wish to have more diversity, e.g. in terms of nationalities.
Where can I get more information?
You can do so at our meetings, which take place every Tuesday at 7pm in various cafes and pubs in Brno (for specific info about the location for a given week, contact us on Instagram @aegee__brno), or contact us via email info@aegee-brno.org. You can also become our fan on Facebook and ask your question there. In case of an emergency, call +420 607 161 655. We will always be happy to advise you.
